Billi Kid

http://artists.gawker.com/5076934/billi-kid#c16419033

What does this mean: "collaborative works with artist from around the world?" If it's collaborative, the names of the other artists should appear with this image. Or is this ANOTHER young artist who is stealing photographic images from talented photographers who've invested in the education and expensive equipment required to make the portrait element in an image like this? Is Billi Kid incorporating appropriated images with or without permission into what are derivative works? Or is Billi also a talented photographer who started with his/her own original, photographic image that is the foundation for this work?

When I see images like this, I always ask "who did the first half of the work (the portrait photography), invested the time and carried the expense that made this work possible?" It then follows, "who owns the copyright?" If it's derivative, the original photographer owns it — unless Billi Kid licensed its use. If it's all original work by Billi Kid, even more kudos are in order. But if it is a collaborative work, who was the original photographer?

Please, provide more information with images like this and stop taking the original photography for granted. The truth is, Kid's works appear to blur "the lines between graffiti, pop culture, graphic design, iconography, art, AND PHOTOGRAPHY.

SaniyaMullimbimby
