I find images and email them to master oil painters in China. This process leaves me free to focus solely on curating the world as I see it. And by participating in the global economy in this manner, I am making art in a way that aligns with my time and place. It also removes me from the burden of craft, as the craft of the painters is consistently excellent. By only dealing with images of strangers, I am able to further remove myself from the standard autobiographical tropes of contemporary art, at least superficially. The world is still beautiful.

Death, desire, closure, idealism, and beauty. My work develops the outlook on life. It emphasizes the role of the aging process. The figures show what a toll growing older has on the mental and physical being. Illuminating the final outcome of growing old; the inevitable death which follows.

I think of my paintings as each comprising a small, often curious mythology, which addresses a shared understanding of loss and longing in the contemporary world, while at the same time revealing a fascination with the magical and poetic. I am interested in the way that ordinary objects, when juxtaposed with one another or placed in novel contexts, can take on a meaning that is somehow greater than the sum of the parts, that creates a visual poetry that transcends the everydayness from which it arises.

MY AIM IS TO TAKE THE DISPOSABLE AND OFTEN TRANSITORY MOMENTS IN LIFE AND EULOGIZE THEM. I'M INSPIRED BY ROCK AND ROLL, MODERN DESIGN AND SUBCULTURE ART. I AM OBSERVING AND ARCHIVING THE IMAGERY THAT HAS COME ACROSS THE VISUAL LANDSCAPE OF MY LIFE. BY RENDERING THEM TO A HIGH FINISH, I HONOR THE OBJECT. IN WHAT APPEARS REPRESENTATIONAL, I CHALLENGE THE VIEWER TO FIND THE MOMENTS TRANSCENDING THE SURFACE STILL LIFE. I GIVE A SECRET MEANING TO AN OBJECT WHICH EXPRESSES A FORM OF INSPIRATION AND/OR RESISTANCE.

There are 6 billion people on this planet, and not everyone has perfect hair, a perfect nose, or that sweet angle that will make them pop. But to capture these unique peoples is my mission; whether, they are the plasticized Paris Hilton or her unfortunate friend Nicole. Photography is an equalizer where all walks of life can tell a story in a single frame.

Hans enjoys analogue as much as digital treatments, this makes for a fresh and modern touch. A simple design one day, next, layer upon layer. The output of his projects can challenge political views or be quirky and whimsical comments on everyday issues. Spray cans and silkscreen are weapons of choice.

For many years I have liked the look of film stills, and my experience in animation has made me much more aware of how the single can represent the whole.
Conceptually the series has evolved, conveying more personal interpretations of the stills. The juxtaposition of personal memories on cinematic imagery is a theme that I am continuing to develop.
Splitting the frame into top and bottom is one of the most interesting aspects of the work. While making the subject matter more dynamic, it also represents the passage of time and more literally the film frames frozen between one and the next.
