A lot of artists will use these /bios/ or /statements/ to ramble on and on trying to give their work additional power or legitimacy. Not here. My photographs are what they are. Straight up reality. I'm just using my camera as an excuse to peer into peoples' lives and observe them. More »

My work as an artist encompasses many mediums from Polaroids and digital photography, to video and animation, and book making. All of my work, in whatever format, is bound by a single thread. My work mainly focuses on the modern world at large, the decay of American society, and trying to stay positive in the face of enormous adversity. I believe that first and foremost art should be visually interesting to draw a viewer in, after that, I wish to allow the viewer to draw whatever conclusions they wish from my work. More »

Life can be likened to a movie that is shown only once to a captive audience of - a darkened room in which the level of illumination is a decision for the occupant alone. To see the light we must first acknowledge that we are in the dark. More »

In my explorations of the world around me, I marvel at the way time, history and nature reform structures and lives, and the stories forgotten objects and structures can tell. Construct is a series of images of places that do not exist, composited from photos of architectural parts I've been collecting for years. I blend together the intricate details of doors, bricks, peeling paint and mortar and gives them a new color and place of their own. As a collection of pieces 'construct' creates places at once surreal and familiar, places that recall parts of everywhere you have been and everywhere you might wish to go. More »

    Ian Aleksander Adams

Born in New York City, but currently residing in the South, Ian Aleksander Adams is interested in living. He explores what this means through in studio and documentary photography, printmaking, experimental video, written and installation work. His work has been exhibited in places as diverse as Paris and Luxembourg, national magazines, and multiple shows in six states. He is constantly examining aesthetics. When told blemishes should be retouched, he created a series highlighting the beauty of imperfections. Seeing the advent of digital auto-perfection, he dived into the soon to be lost muddy print. Art is something to be played with and not blindly accepted. More »

There are 6 billion people on this planet, and not everyone has perfect hair, a perfect nose, or that sweet angle that will make them pop. But to capture these unique peoples is my mission; whether, they are the plasticized Paris Hilton or her unfortunate friend Nicole. Photography is an equalizer where all walks of life can tell a story in a single frame. More »

    Michael Ratulowski

Michael Ratulowski mines hip-hop culture through his work to approach race and stereotypes within the broader element of American culture. In using elements of hip-hop culture, and personal experiences from within, he deftly addresses issues surrounding race, stereotyping and discrimination that exist, whether conscious or not. Sometimes with an incendiary vision, Michael presents objects and text, which gather meaning based on presupposed notions and the suggested intent of the artist that challenge the way we think or the way we think we are supposed to behave. I want to meet everyone and take their portrait. I want to photograph the landfill and the kittens in your closet. I am interested in all facets of image making. I believe in democratic photography in the sense that all things are capable of being the subject of a beautiful image if the artist has the notion to share this vision. I enjoy documenting my surroundings constantly for this reason. I enjoy creating scenes from the imagery in my mind to balance the observed with the conceived. As I photograph I am constantly learning to see again. More »

Celebrityism is a series of collages focusing on America's obsession with celebrities. News of celebrities has replaced real news, as in the case of Anna Nicole's death and when Paris Hilton went to jail. The public then is bombarded with repeated imagery of these celebrities. The ornate frames are to symbolize the royalty status given to celebrities and there are several religious iconitry references to denote how they have become the gods of modern times. "Celebrityism" represents our misplaced values raising the celebrity above us, culminating in the depreciation of the significance of everyday living. More »

In architecture, one of the byproducts of globalization is the loss of regionalism as a valuable commodity. In making photographs of these places, I am interested in considering a relationship to how the visual language of photography too is an accepted and generally unquestioned. By making montages from parts of similar kinds of buildings, I use what is commonly considered a democratic medium to not only emphasize the general misunderstanding of the extent of mediation in photography today, but also challenge what seems to be an acceptance and democratization of the buildings in which we work and live. Cyril de la Torre Branger

Integral within all of Cyril's beautiful and elegant photographs is the notion of movement. From the obvious depiction of trails left in the sky from a travelling plane, to those left by a burning cigarette, it is clear that life has been captured as it continues around him. Similarly, to viewing a film still, the sense of documenting the passing of time rather than capturing a frozen moment, helps to create a sense of spectator benevolence rather than voyeurism. More »
