    LJ Lindhurst: Art@Gawker Winter 2008

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LJ Lindhurst @ Gawker NEW YORK (January 2009)- Gawker Artists is pleased to feature the work of Brooklyn based artist LJ Lindhurst in its third Art@Gawker exhibition.

The masterful realist paintings of LJ Lindhurst celebrate seemingly mundane objects-locks, marbles, toys-highlighting the beauty, humor and peculiarity of these often disregarded subjects and creating a dialogue as to their influence in contemporary culture. In her own words, "Thematically, the subjects of my paintings are varied, but tend to focus on the often overlooked detritus of our popular culture. By closely examining otherwise ordinary images from our daily life, such as advertising, packaging, television, or our print media, an underlying sense of uneasy comedy is revealed."

In accordance with the practice of photorealism, Lindhurst paints from photographic images, increasing the size of her subjects, but accurately recording their every detail. As a result these meticulous studies often "communicate a sense of isolation, alienation, comedy, threat, and modern decay." Lindhurst's paintings will be on display through March 2009.

Art@Gawker is a quarterly exhibition program of selected Gawker Artists' works in the Gawker Media headquarters.
