Derek Van Oss is a freelance photographer and artist of many kinds based in Los Angeles, CA USA.

His target photographic subject matter is people, though his photographic repertoire spans an exceptionally "open" range.

Half of his vision in both eyes is completely blind (a condition called "homonymous hemianopsia") as the result of a hemorrhagic stroke in 2002. He credits the peculiar impairment with pushing his visual style forward and driving him to excel as a photographer despite the difficulty.

Other than an "intro to photography" course in his senior year of high school, Van Oss is completely self taught.
