Sophie Kahn’s work addresses the erotics of death in the still image. It owes its Victorian-futurist aesthetic to the interaction of new and old media, or, in other, terms, the digital and the analogue. Her sculptural and imaging practice is a hybrid one, combining new advances in 3d scanning and 3d printing with ancient technologies such as bronze casting. The precise 3d scanning technology at the laboratory at which she works was never designed to represent the body, which is always in flux. When confronted with a moving body, it receives conflicting spatial coordinates, generating fragmentary results.
