My paintings are representational still lifes of common objects enlarged to give them a new iconic status.
Past series include subjects that are disposable and dangerous pieces of pop Americana detritus, including crumpled and torn magazines, disposable lighters, broken heels, crashed cars, and other fetishized objects as satirical symbols of society's addiction to excess consumption. The 8' x 14' painting "Sorry Ma (Forgot to Take Out the Trash)" is an apology to Mother Nature made up of ripped magazine advertising selling products harmful to our earth's soil, water, and skies. The mural sized work draws attention to the dangers of our throw away culture, where products are made to be disposed of - quickly. The trashy subjects are rendered in a glamorized way to seduce the viewer, much in the way advertising seduces its audience to want more stuff, which in turn is polluting our minds and the planet.
